Hedges

From strategic planting to regular trimming.

Hedge Pruning & Trimming

is a crucial aspect of landscape maintenance that goes beyond just aesthetics. Regular trimming plays a pivotal role in maintaining the health, beauty, and functionality of your hedges.

The basics

There’s a lot to consider when scheduling in your hedge trimming. The age of the hedge, as well as the intended function and overall aesthetic plays a big part in how we approach every job.

  • New hedges require formative pruning for their first couple of years after planting. Formative pruning is usually carried out in winter or spring.

  • Formal hedges require more frequent trimming than informal hedges. Maintenance trimming is usually carried out twice a year for formal hedges. Although some formal hedges may need three cuts a year.

  • Established hedges require trimming to keep them dense and compact. For informal established hedges maintenance trimming is carried out once a year.

  • Maintenance trimming is generally carried out between spring and summer.
